‘’The automotive industry is racing into a new world of possibilities around sustainability and mobility — and biotechnology applied to interior materials can significantly contribute, such is the case of our patented cactus-based biomaterial as an alternative to leather (Deserttex®) which not only is vegan and cruelty-free certified but also can help to reduce the environmental impact in very important ways. In a fast-changing, highly competitive landscape, Adriano Di Marti is collaborating and innovating with OEMs to accelerate progress on the industry sustainability goals. And we’re seeing results.’’ — Adriano Di Marti S.A. de C.V.
The Mexican company Adriano Di Marti S.A de C.V., which creates a cactus-based biomaterial as an alternative to leather, has debuted a new material for the automotive sector, Deserttex®, and will collaborate with BMW as part of the company’s push toward alternative sustainable materials.
In cooperation with Adriano di Marti S.A. de C.V., BMW Group is researching a sustainable cactus-based material which has the potential to significantly reduce the ecological footprint associated with conventional animal and artificial leathers. Deserttex®, the plant-based material was presented at the IAA Mobility Expo in Munich alongside the BMW Startup Garage program.
Marking the launch of a new, super-purist design style, the VISION EQXX represents a new expression of efficiency in interior design. The animal-free leather alternative called Deserttex® is a sustainable cactus-based biomaterial made from cactus, the leather alternative has an exceptionally supple finish that is extremely soft to the touch.
